Is market volatility a good or bad thing?

The stock market has been on a wild ride lately – worldwide. No country is immune to the effects of this worldwide volatility. This is fundamentally changing the way that everyone does business – from the grocery store, to the hardware store, to the workplace. But this situation is not exclusive to businesses and employees – even people who are fortunate enough to be retired are feeling significant effects of this situation. As we learn to adapt to this new way of conducting ourselves on a daily basis, it is becoming more and more apparent that this is the way that things are going to be.

But what effect is this having on your investments and retirement savings? For some people, this is an incredible opportunity for significant financial gain in the near future. Do you have the correct mix of assets to insulate you from a market upset like this? Will this impact your available income in the future? Is your portfolio diversified properly? Are your current investments performing the way that should be expected in this economic turmoil? Was your portfolio designed to protect you in this scenario?

So many questions. Let’s get you some answers.

Have you ever attended a video meeting before?

Not to worry if you haven’t. You don’t have to do anything other than click on a link that will place you in the meeting. We are using Microsoft Teams for our video meetings, exclusively with servers in Canada. This system uses “end-to-end encryption” and is approved for secure use by many governments and large corporations around the world.

You do not need to use, or even have, a camera or microphone to attend a secure video meeting. All you need is a computer with a reasonable internet connection. My team and I will take care of the rest.

Don’t be afraid to embrace new technologies. Use Skype, Facetime, or other video-chatting software to keep in contact with your friends and family. Check in with people who are living alone. Use this technology to stay in touch with the people who are important to you.
